Filming Blog: Prom Queen-ish

Image
I started filming on Friday, November 27th. I gathered all my materials, including props, during the day and started actually filming takes at around 4pm. The first thing I did was print out all the pictures I needed and and put them in their proper positions. Then I placed the props in their proper positions as well. I got together all the costumes I needed for today and put them in a bin so that transitions between outfits would take very long. Then, I set up my tripod to start filming, which took a little while because it was first time using one but I got the hang of it pretty soon. I planned on shooting the first 6 scenes of the music video today but I needed up doing the 7th scene as well because it was more convenient for me. With the being said, today was the easiest day of filming since I didn't have to do any makeup and just one minor outfit change. One problem that I ran into today though was lighting. Due to daylight savings time and Florida's unpredictable weather,

Planning Storyboard for my Music Video

Image
First Scene- In this first scene, the subject is seen flipping through some magazine pages. She continues until she finds a page that says "Shut up! Count your calories!". This is the first 3 seconds of the song and the magazine page correlates with the lyrics.  Second Scene- In this scene, The girl walks over to her mirror and looks at herself. This will be an over the shoulder shot to capture her looking at herself in the mirror looking discourages. At this point the song lyrics say "I'll never look good in mom jeans" Third Scene-  The girl is now seen ripping pages out of the magazine and taping them to her mirror. this way, she can look at herself and them at the same time.  Fourth Scene-  In the fourth scene, the girl is sitting at her desk looking at those pictures on the mirror, thinking about how she isn't as pretty as they are. At this point there is an outfit change from the girl's everyday wear to tattered clothing.  Fifth scene-  She then op

Planning for my Music Video

The title of the song that I will be doing my music video for is Prom Queen. This song is by an artist named Beach Bunny. For my props I will be using a variety of objects throughout the duration of the video. This ranges from full length mirrors, printed pictures, plastic wrap, pencils, markers, a flat iron, a magazine, scissors, and makeup products. Regarding costumes, I'll be using a mix of tattered clothing, normal/everyday wear, and formal clothing. Throughout the music video there will be many costume changes because of the progression in storyline. In the beginning of the song where it says, "I'll never look good in mom jeans", mom jeans will be what the subject is wearing, which falls in the category of everyday wear. Along with mom jeans, the subject will be wearing a simple top which also falls into the category of every clothing. Then, another outfit change will occur mid-song where the subject will be wearing a tattered top with shorts. And in the very la

Research Blog: Music Video Conventions

I will be doing a music video for the song Prom Queen. It is a part of the alternative rock genre. In alternative rock music videos, the audience usually sees the representation of the topics being conveyed in the song. It also very common for the artist(s) playing some type of instrument or singing. In the music video for Prom Queen, these elements are apparent through the video. Most alt rock songs also follow a story that progresses throughout the duration of the song. In this example, of Prom Queen the writer signs about an eating disorder where it starts out as simple demeaning comments like "Shut up! count your calories", ""I never look good in mom jeans", "Wish I was like you, blue eyed blondie, perfect body". This eventually turns into "I've been starving myself, Carving skin until my bones are showing". In this song the story surrounds the worsening of the artist's eating disorder. This theme is especially dark but that is

Introduction to the Music Video Project

Image
This is the introduction to the new project I will be working on, the music video project. I will be working on my own yet again for this project. This is because I don't really have anyone to work with. These days especially when it's harder for people to be able to work together because of the pandemic. Now that I know what its like working on my own on a project, I know what I will need to do here to optimize my results. Also, I feel like I don't work too well with people because there's a lot of things that could go wrong with communication. Also, there's the possibility that they may become flaky or not do their part. I feel that it's best for me, personally to work alone.  The name of the song I chose is Prom Queen by Beach Bunny. I had a really hard time choosing which song I wanted to do but I ultimately decided on this one. Reason being, I think its its an amazing song with a strong message that some people, like myself could relate to. Its a relativel

Coca-Cola Commercial Reflection

Image
My product uses the conventions by including the core things found in a typical coca-cola commercial. this includes he strategic placements of the product in the frame of the shot, the coca-cola icon, the display family members bonding over a coca-cola, and the use of upbeat music as the score. I did my best to include as many as I could to make it look like a legitimate coca-cola commercial. I think the primary social group may commercial represents is family. The main theme that my commercial displayed was the bonding of 2 daily members over a coca-cola.  My product engages with the audience by showing situations that nearly everyone can relate to. For example, frustration with school work and bad/ mediocre days. I used these scenarios to show that no matter the situation, a coca-cola drink will always make it better. My product would distributed as a real media text through television or video streaming platforms like YouTube. It could be shown during commercial breaks or as an ad

Coca Cola Commercial

This is my first project uploaded to my blog, my coca-cola commercial. For my first big project, I think I did well with the resources I had. Ive definitely learned a lot throughout the whole filming and editing process as well. Im proud of the work I've done here and I think the outcome was okay. I'm aware that there are improvements that could be made but I feel that this is just the start and I'll only get better. Even though the result isn't exactly what I planned, it wasn't bad by any means, its just that some areas weren't as good as they could have been. One thing that I would've done differently were the choice of score. The score by far was the biggest issue for me because it more so matched the contents of the commercial at the end rather than the beginning.  Also, I feel that brighter locations would've been better looking in the commercial but I had to make do with what I had available to me at the time. Other than that, I am satisfied with t

Editing Blog: The Coca-Cola Process

The first thing I did after shooting all my footage was move all the clips into my editing software. Once I got them in the same order as my storyboard, I started to trim each of the individual shots down to my desired length of about 5 seconds. As previously mentioned, there were two clips that I had a bit of trouble filling and those two got more time than the others because this is where I intended to put my VoiceOver. I had trouble trimming the clips so that they wouldn't override the 30 second limit. It was difficult choosing which parts of each shot were worth getting cut for the sake of the commercial being the right length. In the last scene, I had to cut off more than 10 seconds to make it fit but I finally got it. When got all parts of the video to my my preferred length, I started adding transitions. To blend the clips together more seamlessly I used a dissolve transition to switch between the scenarios and a fade-in for the can to glass shot. This was one of the best de
