Shantaneil: The Start

Hello, my name is Shantaneil Francis. I'm currently attending Fort Lauderdale High as a 10th grader this year. This year is very important to me because I've been looking forward to taking this class since last year. One of my reasons being, I've never been the most artistic or creative person, nor have I gotten the opportunity to learn about film or media until I enrolled in Fort Lauderdale High. Another major reason I took this class is to be able to look at the progress I’ve made in this course. A lot of the time, students tend to forget what they’ve learned in a class and move on once they got the credit. I, however, find it rewarding to see how far I’ve come when learning something new that I like. I hope that with the knowledge and possible experience I gain from taking this class that I'm able to develop my creative skills for the future. I've tried testing new hobbies to find something that I enjoy but nothing seems to stick. One thing that I've always taken an interest in is film. I'll watch any type of movie/show of any genre so learning about the film industry and seeing how scenes are captured and edited to make a movie would be fascinating. Along with film production, broadcasting is something I’m eager to learn about too. My favorite movie genres are romance, coming of age, crime and drama. For example, shows like Criminal minds, Law and order, Euphoria, and Normal People are among my favorites. I also enjoy animation of all sorts, especially Japanese animated cartoons. When I was looking at examples of media terms, it came as a surprise to me how animated films use some of the same editing techniques as non-animated films. From there, my interest in media has grown. It left me wondering how many more comparisons I can make between all the different aspects of it and how they relate to each other. Just the thought of studying the art of media and learning how my favorite shows come to life motivates me to do my best in this class. As my curiosity expands, the more I look forward to learning and applying the concepts I will come to learn in this course in and outside of the classroom.
