Filming Blog: Coca-Cola Everywhere

Image
On Friday, October 31st, I started the filming process. It was raining that day despite the forecast saying it would be sunny so instead of shooting the pool scene, I opted for my backup plan instead. I shot a scene in my living room as a replacement just in case this would happen. I think it ended up coming out well and corresponded well with the balcony scene. Before filming these two scenes, I shot the first scene in my room. This scene was of a subject frustrated with doing homework. Then, second scene was shot on the living room with 2 subjects that are hot because there's no air conditioning. The next scene I shot was the balcony scene where there were 2 subjects sitting together on the balcony, not taking to each other. After that, I had to prepare 3 sets of Coca-Cola drinks. This was probably the hardest to film even though it was really simple. It rewired a lot of coca-cola because I had to do multiple takes and we kept running out. I settled on 2 separate 2.5 second long

Planning Storyboard for my Coca-Cola Commercial

Image
First Scene- This first scene will be of a girl sitting at her desk doing homework. The shot will be zoomed in to capture the subject's frustrated facial expression. The room is the location we will be shooting in so that will be captured in the frame as well. I wanted to include this scene because its a common theme in Coca-Cola commercials for the subjects to be in a bad mood before consuming the beverage. Second Scene- The next scene is of a girl at the pool, visibly fatigued because its extremely hot outside. In this shot, the camera will be tracking the subject walking around to cool off. A reoccurring theme in Coca-Cola commercials is the subject(s) being hot and in need of a cool drink which is what we are trying to recreate here. A mid-shot will be used for this scene. Third Scene- The third scene is of 2 people sitting on a balcony on their phones, and upon receiving a coke, they start smiling and interact with each other. This scene is to allude to Coca-Cola's slogan

Planning for my Coca-Cola Commercial

Because I decided that my product was going to be a Coca-Cola commercial, the props will be mostly red and white and include many cans of Coca-Cola. As for costumes, in my commercial the two subjects will be wearing everyday clothing. Clothing items like jeans or shorts and a tank top or t-shirt would be ideal. The actors are supposed to look basic, like common people you’d encounter when going about your day. I’ll avoid dark or eccentric clothing that could potentially take away from the feel of a regular Coca-Cola commercial. Even though the costumes will be basic, it’d be ideal for them to look vibrant and fun since Coca-Cola is   a brand heavily associated with the feeling of happiness. Regarding my schedule, I plan on researching the conventions and codes on October 23 rd . I’ll also plan the props, schedule, list of locations, and a backup plan on the same day. On October 25 th I will be making the storyboard for my commercial. I will be filming all the shots I need on October 2

Research: Commercial Conventions and Codes

I’ll be doing a Coca-Cola commercial. In many Coca-Cola commercials, there are displays groups of people bonding together over a coke. There are also some that show people doing everyday activities enjoying a coke to brighten their mood. Some of these activities include studying, hard physical labor, eating with family, or simply running errands. One thing that all these commercials seem to have in common is the association with happiness to the Coca-Cola drink. This heavily implies that no matter the task at hand, a coke will always make your day better. People in these commercials are often happy or in a good mood upon receiving a bottle of coke. Their costumes are very basic, they're dressed as everyday people which gives the narrative that just about anyone can enjoy a coke. Some of the props include, Coca-Cola bottles or cans, tall glasses, bottle caps, and red and white items which match their theme colors. The appearance of the actors ranges greatly but most are average look
